Susan S. Fainstein
Susan S. Fainstein is a Senior Research Fellow in the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she was a professor of urban planning until 2012. She received the Association of American Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) Davidoff Book Award for The Just City and also its Distinguished Educator Award, as well as the Sir Peter Hall award for career achievement from the Regional Studies Association. Among her other books are The City Builders; Restructuring the City; Urban Political Movements, and edited volumes on urban tourism, planning theory, urban theory, and gender. Her research focuses on planning theory, urban regeneration, and comparative public policy. She has taught at Columbia and Rutgers Universities and the National University of Singapore, held visiting appointments in North America and Europe, served on numerous editorial boards, was an editor of the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research and of Ethnic and Racial Studies, and has been a consultant to various public organizations. She received her PhD in political science from MIT.
